City of Austin Carver Museum Education VISTA
 
 
 
The City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program works with City departments and local nonprofits to build capacity, in order to provide resources and services to the Austin neighborhoods and communities that may otherwise be left behind by Austin's historic disparities and future growth. The AmeriCorps members serving with the City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program work in such diverse fields as education, health, waste reduction, and housing to cover the myriad ways poverty affects these neighborhoods and communities.

Member Duties : Develop creative strategies to reach communities of color around the Austin/Travis County area about the Carver’s educational opportunities. Identify potential community partners and artists of color, and plan outreach efforts to share opportunities for collaborating with the Carver Museum. Create a methodology for Carver Museum employees to identify potential community partners and collaborations. Expand the annual black arts/organizations’ educational opportunities catalog. Create a communication plan to ensure effective engagement for the museum after the close of the VISTA project. Strengthen relationships with schools and other youth organizations to create stronger afterschool education. Establish a panel of representatives from these organizations. Develop a database of educational opportunities in the Austin area that match the Carver Museum’s target demographics. Build partnerships with AISD, especially schools within the vicinity of the museum.
