Section 3 Economic Opportunity VISTA

Can I live, Inc is a national public housing tenants association dedicated to reducing dependency on government subsidies. Remaining a growing concern in the public housing industry (monitored and enforced by HUD), it is important that residents know and understand opportunities available to lift and grow them out of poverty. With a mission to move One Million Moms OFF Welfare by 2030, CIL designs its programs around two central focuses: Education and Entrepreneurship. To this end, we have established two core programs to accomplish this. RADAR and ROBI. This project focuses on ROBI (the Resident Owned Business Incubator). ROBI exist to fulfill an unmet need in numerical quotas triggered by the Federal regulation titled Section 3. Our VISTAs project will be one of the organizations most critical and long anticipating functions.

Member Duties : Our Vista will be required to understand the regulation and establish partnerships with entities that are required to fulfil the Section 3 mandates. Vistas will also: Research Section 3 and First source footprint in each respective state by upcoming projects, along with dollar amounts that trigger the federal and state regulation; Create a database of contact information for each Section 3 triggered source; Gather and analyze data to create a report on Section 3 with findings; and Create a value package that we would offer to Section 3 members. This accountability may be uncomfortable for those who have never had to provide an answer as why, these opportunities are failing to meet the hands of low-income persons. Our VISTA will need to be charismatic in their approach to inspire the change in order to all fairly do our part in creating a more just economy.
