SUM Associate VISTA, Horizons Student Enrichment Prgm - SCH2

Horizons at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy (SCH) launched its inaugural year of Horizons at SCH programming in Summer 2021. Horizons at SCH provides a tuition-free, six-week summer academic enrichment program for children in under-resourced schools in Philadelphia’s Mt. Airy and Germantown neighborhoods. Students begin Horizons the summer after Kindergarten and will return each summer through 8th Grade to discover the joy of learning, skills for success, and inspiration to achieve their dreams. Horizons offers a high-quality, hands-on summer learning experience outside of the traditional school year that supports academic achievement and healthy youth development. During the first year of Horizons at SCH, fourteen rising first-grade students were served. In summer 2022, thirty students in 1st and 2nd grades will be welcomed. Students are provided a full day of learning opportunities, including literacy, math, STEM projects, and enrichment activities such as field trips, hiking, and swimming. Students are also provided daily breakfast, lunch, and snacks at no cost. This is an AmeriCorps Summer Associate VISTA position and the individual will work directly with the classroom staff and executive team for 8 weeks in the summer. This is an opportunity for motivated, committed, and collaborative individuals who are passionate about making a difference and receiving beyond entry-level responsibilities. Because of this, the candidate should have a demonstrated interest in volunteer and community service as well as the desire to take on responsibilities that will challenge themselves and make an impact on the community.
