Mi Casa Community Assessment Coordinator VISTA

The mission of Mi Casa, Inc. is to provide, facilitate, and advocate for inclusive, affordable housing for underserved communities in order to promote equitable, thriving and diverse neighborhoods in the greater DC, Maryland and Virginia (DMV) area. This project will assess organizational strength and financial stability of limited equity cooperatives (LECs), a unique affordable homeownership structure in the District of Columbia. This project will help inform program delivery and design for an expanded initiative that will strengthen the financial and organizational capacity of LECs.

Member Duties : This project will include an assessment and study of organizational strength and financial stability of a sampling of limited equity cooperatives (LECs) across DC. Primary activities will include (1) Designing community (LEC) assessment plan, (2) Distributing and collecting the community assessment, and (3) Assessing findings and compiling recommendations. This assessment and resulting study will measure various needs –for example, it will analyze financial data such as amount of outstanding debt and current terms, debt to income ratio, average operating expenses and available cash flow, reserves, what are the current conditions of the building, and is there a need for an additional renovation and/or refinancing. This will be Mi Casa’s first implementation of a new program plan directly informed from community data collection from beneficiaries.
