'23 Kitsap Harvest: Grow A Row Coordinator VISTA

Located in Western Washington’s Kitsap Peninsula, Kitsap Harvest started as an AmeriCorps VISTA program in 2016. In 2022, it became a federally recognized Non-Profit, with a mission of providing fresh food access to those in critical need in our community. With a multitude of partnerships we are able to provide produce year-round to these vulnerable communities, by delivering the “last mile,” focusing on seniors, youth, and recovery. Kitsap Harvest accomplishes their mission through a variety of programs, one being their Grow A Row program, which is responsible for increasing vegetable donations. This program is critical for producing substantial vegetable donations for our community grown, fresh food access. Kitsap Harvest works with multiple partnerships. One of those partners is Harvest Against Hunger which acts as a catalyst, utilizing AmeriCorps members who build a sustainable food security program over a three year period. This is the role in which you would be applying as the second year coordinator. Kitsap Harvest also partners with Washington State University which is providing support and office space. In this position Kitsap Harvest partners with Harvest Against Hunger, a program incubator and catalyst utilizing a team of AmeriCorps members in the VISTA program who build sustainable community food security programs. These range from gleaning projects, to regional food security assessments, to expanding community-run gardens and food bank farms. AmeriCorps members serve with their projects for a year, recruiting and coordinating volunteers, addressing challenges related to supply chain management, like the transportation and distribution of gleaned produce, and create systems to collect data and evaluate programs. They benefit from professional development and team building in a nationwide cohort. Harvest Against Hunger projects also aims to involve the larger community in addressing food insecurity.
