Rural Action employs an integrated strategy of economic renewal to build social capacity and civic democracy building on local assets to create long-term solutions for problems. AORC's main outcomes are improved waterways, better managed public and private natural resources, a system of public education around the region's assets and natural history that connects to a ladder of tourism and restoration development opportunities. Members assist in natural resource restoration in the region through activities including: education, volunteer mobilization, and events such as cleanups, watershed and historical tours and building local stewardship toward natural resources. Other activities include environmental training for residents and youth through school-based and community activities such as day camps, library programs, and after-school activities.
