Stewards VISTA: EcoAction Partners

EcoAction Partners is a regional nonprofit working across SMPA territory (San Miguel, Ouray, and West Montrose Counties). We track regional greenhouse gas emissions and run programming to reduce our energy use and waste. We support collaborative regional programming and planning to create viable climate action in our remote and rural region. We recently completed an updated regional Climate Action Plan (CAP) to guide the next decade of action across our two-county region. The plan outlines short- and long-term objectives meant to reach our regional emission reduction goals. Within these objectives is the development of addition renewable capacity and efficiency programming. The VISTA member would create the capacity to support the implementation of energy related programming from the CAP in support of a more resilient and economically viable energy industry in our region. They will provide support for EcoAction’s Income Qualified Weatherization Program which provides energy audits, and energy and weatherization upgrades all at no cost to participants. They will conduct outreach with historically underserved community members to ensure utilization of the weatherization program and expand awareness around program benefits. They will work closely with our utility provider, SMPA, along with other key stakeholders to support the ongoing development of further community solar capacity earmarked for Income Qualified residents. They will build off the research done in the first year of this project to engage community members on the various pathways to renewable development including support for a solar co-op program focused on education and cost savings for net metered systems. The VISTA will focus on outreach and education efforts for community members interested in energy resources and programming. They will work with regional partners to support the implementation of these programs, track participation and support accountability for ongoing resource development
