Athens Mental Health Inc./The Gathering Place is a member-operated peer recovery organization that serves adults with a lived experience of a mental health issue or a co-occurring substance use disorder. Staff and members work together to provide peer support, linkage services, advocacy, mental health education, recreational and wellness activities, access to healthy food, access to affordable housing opportunities, and community integration opportunities all in a welcoming home-like environment. AMH Inc. operates two programs, a drop-in center with daily health and wellness programming promoting recovery for adults with lived experience, and a Level II Recovery House for adult men with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, called Mike’s Bridge House, which offers a supportive and sober housing option for members of our community. The VISTA project position will provide capacity building and support for MBH’s Program Manager and AMHInc’s Executive Director. The main objectives are:1. Developing a comprehensive plan to expand the use of the Ohio Recovery Housing outcomes tool by providing training, technical assistance and support to residents and operators seeking to use the tool; 2.Build capacity for recovery housing by raising awareness, addressing stigma and providing accurate information on the importance of recovery housing in the continuum of services and supports for those impacted by addiction; 3. Creating Communications/Marketing for MBH/AMHInc.; 4. Designing (internal) organizational/electronic record keeping processes in conjunction with MBH PM for reporting purposes; 5.Assisting with development and documentation of Community Volunteer Opportunities for residents of MBH and PM; 6. Assisting ED of AMH Inc. with grant research/grant writing of local, regional, state and national grant opportunities for recovery housing programs and ensuring MBH operations are following best practice compliance and operations.

Member Duties : Some of the specific activities that the VISTA will perform on a daily basis to achieve the main objectives will include: Attending trainings and conferences to learn about the Ohio Recovering Housing Outcomes Tools/Meetings and to learn about recovery and the continuum of services available locally and regionally; conducting outreach/survey to businesses, resources and other community agencies about recovery supports and opportunities for employment/volunteering for recovery residents; providing support for creating recording processes/documentation and development of best practice programming and compliance for recovery housing operations; assisting with marketing/media/website/brochure and community relations to create awareness of MBH in community; creating recovery supports listings; providing grant research/writing, fundraising support; providing basic support and training on office operations in conjunction with Program Manager of Mike’s Bridge House.
