TSC VISTA 2022: Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles

The Service Collaborative (TSC) VISTA Program mobilizes AmeriCorps VISTA members to function in organizations, government agencies and educational institutions. Members focus on expanding educational opportunities, ensuring economic opportunity for all and creating healthy futures for the residents of low-income communities. Our goals are to strengthen communities across the state and to allow organizations within them to better provide services to impoverished individuals and families. The Service Collaborative VISTA program has partner organizations in New York State and across the country. During their term of service members, will receive support from our VISTA team at The Service Collaborative of WNY. Our support includes monthly trainings, a social network of fellow members and daily support from VISTA Leaders.

Member Duties : The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) oversees two-thirds of the City’s available affordable housing and provides educational, social, economic, and leadership opportunities for residents of all ages. HACLA provides safe and affordable housing to over 20,000 low-income residents. HACLA is home to families living in households who fall under the national poverty line, meaning many of these youth’s access to critical services is limited. As part of the Connect Home Program, an AmeriCorps VISTA member will be tasked with coordinating and facilitating Digital Literacy trainings for the Youth Digital Ambassadors by connecting low-income families to affordable internet service and computers and delivering digital skills trainings. The member will deploy technology resource distributions, tracking of devices, engage residents, and develop resident satisfaction surveys to obtain feedback to address program needs as defined by the data.
