Omaha EITC Outreach Capacity Builder VISTA
 
 
 
The Omaha Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition, a program of Family Housing Advisory Services, Inc., provides free income tax preparation for low to moderate income working families. The EITC Coalition directs the activities of IRS-certified Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites. VITA sites also serve as information distribution and intake centers for financial education, credit counseling, and savings programs. The Coalitions VITA program has designed a volunteer training program that focuses on customer service, cultural and disability awareness competency, technological fluency, and tax law expertise. Two VISTA Volunteer Outreach Specialists, serving as a team, will be responsible for creating a comprehensive plan to develop, support, and expand our corps of volunteers, guest instructors, and community partners. The VISTA team will serve and learn through community outreach, communication with volunteers, surveys, research, and reflection on personal experience during participation in volunteers activities. To foster understanding of our volunteers, the VISTA team will engage in volunteer training, orientation activities such as tax preparation, and recruiting. They will also train volunteers through classroom presentations, online lectures, and role-playing and provide feedback to the Program or Assistant Director to improve the process

Member Duties : The VISTA team will represent the Coalition at outreach events, build referral partnerships with community agencies, schools, businesses, service providers and congregations to identify prospective volunteers and build recruitment pipelines, provide educational trainings at other social service agencies, source funding recommendations, and recruit volunteers for the next tax season. The ultimate goal of the program is to develop a Volunteer and Outreach Manager position and comprehensive plan to increase volunteering with the Omaha EITC Coalition, which will help us serve more people in the community.
