BUF Development and Engagement Specialist - MCNW

The Black United Fund (BUF), located in Portland, Oregon, assists in the social and economic development of underserved BIPOC communities in Oregon and Washington. The VISTA member placed at BUF will assist by developing the Mentor4Success (M4S) program, linking youth to scholarships, mentorship, and vocational training. AmeriCorps VISTA members perform only indirect service; interaction with clients will be limited and the member will spend the majority of their time in an office setting. However, the BUF VISTA will play a dynamic role in ending poverty by providing services to low-income youth interested in pursuing higher education, the skilled trades, or direct-to-career routes. The VISTA will create a curriculum surrounding vocational training, financial literacy, and job readiness, develop an outreach plan for recruiting diverse presenters, mentors, and resources, and communicate with school partners to build a marketing plan for recruitment of students. The member will also create a database of student alumni and implement systems to increase alumni engagement. Lastly, the member will build partnerships with service-providing organizations and engage in grant research to increase the number of wrap-around services provided to low-income BIPOC youth pursuing post-secondary options. As a BUF VISTA, you will be part of a larger cohort of AmeriCorps members coordinated by Mercy Corps Northwest. Early applications are strongly encouraged. Selections are made on a rolling basis.
