Opportunity Council-Miracle Food Network Communication VISTA

Miracle Food Network (MFN) is a community building organization that uses donated free food (mostly perishables) to connect with people across distances, race, and cultures. MFN volunteers collect, sort, and repackage thousands of pounds of food each day that are distributed through a decentralized network close to the neighborhoods we serve. As we find more people to feed, we source more food to increase our capacity generating more data to manage. The objective is improving social and economic mobility so that people at a disadvantage can access the resources necessary to improve their health and well-being. This 2nd year VISTA project will focus on capturing more data within our network including an inventory of volunteer skills and the quantity and value of food and other donated items. This data will assist our grant writers, help utilize existing resources within our network to help where possible, limiting waste and unnecessary expenditures, and strengthen the social/economic bonds within MFN’s network. This project will also build volunteer skills through training and supervised practice organized by this project’s VISTA. The Opportunity Council VISTA Cohort in Bellingham includes monthly team meetings, Professional Development opportunities, fun team-building events, and 4 annual Days of Service.
