United Way of Southeastern Michigan – Connect 313 (LitMN)

The United Way of Southeastern Michigan (UWSEM) has worked tirelessly to support healthy children, healthy families and healthy communities. Especially given the COVID-19 pandemic, we know that access to connected devices is a necessity that is unfortunately not a reality for many. In order to close the digital divide in Detroit, UWSEM has partnered with the City of Detroit, Rocket Community Foundation and Microsoft to establish the Connect 313 initiative to ensure equitable access to the digital world through distribution of devices, neighborhood tech hubs, and ensuring affordable internet by working with the federal government, as well as local internet providers. Our Americorps VISTA Literacy Leader will be a valuable member of our team and will have the support of not only United Way, but also our partner agencies - the City of Detroit and Rocket Community Fund. They will walk away with important transferable skills such as research methodology, program development and evaluation, collective problem solving, and community engagement. They will work with a close-knit central team and develop a large network of professional connections with our core partner organizations, as well as our community partners, and will be well situated for additional opportunities beyond their VISTA service. We are looking for someone dedicated, team-oriented and flexible with excellent communication skills. We are also looking for a proactive problem solver who is responsive to changing - and sometimes rushed - deadlines, and someone who is able to prioritize competing tasks. Someone with experience in research methodology is preferred.
