AmeriCorps Delaware VISTA

Volunteer Delaware, the Governor's Commission on Community and Volunteer Service, is building an AmeriCorps VISTA team of ten members to help ten entities expand capacity to fight poverty. VISTAS will also engage coalitions to build Blueprints for effectively fighting three identified underlying causes of poverty. Long Term Planning for Sustainability: The Commission is building a team of VISTA talent and resources to produce Blueprint plans that embody the hopes and expertise of stakeholders at the front lines and frontiers of change making efforts in specific arenas, on a specific problem. Individual VISTAs will serve with local non-profits to build the capacity of those organizations and, as a team, build or leverage coalitions that will identify needs and interventions that will make an impact on a larger scale. These interventions will be identified through building Delaware Blueprints for Success, which will also encompass an action plan. The Blueprint process will provide a path for sustaining the interventions needed, and moving beyond as needs change. Each VISTA will be imbedded with a participating organization in one of the following areas to serve that organization’s specific needs, while also participating across the state with VISTAs at other sites to build statewide coalitions in one of 3 Blueprint areas: Safe, decent, and affordable housing Education Access to Health, Employment, and Safety.
