Do you want serve your community and create long-lasting impact? The University of Arizona, Sonoran UCEDD in Tucson, Arizona has a spot for you! This position serves to improve the overall wellbeing and quality of life for Arizona’s Family Caregivers of family members who require assistance in daily activities due to lifelong disabilities (e.g., developmental disabilities) as well as newly acquired health conditions/disabilities. To do this, we offer a variety of support services, with a particular focus on caregiver access to relevant resources and information, including one-to-one and/or group assistance in accessing respite and/or friendly visits, educational workshops, and support groups, and additional education and culturally relevant resources. Members will function as navigators to find supportive information and resources, refer caregivers to services, and assist caregivers in gathering important documents. Members will also provide hands-on assistance 1) to implement practical steps that can help reduce stress and the burden of caregiving (e.g., personal information book making for care planning and support capacity expansion) and 2) to educate family caregivers about resources and programs and so that they may remain in good health and provide ongoing support for their loved one in their own home. Members will work to build awareness of the need for caregiver respite and being prepared for situations that may require emergency respite. The average required hours per week for this position is 16 hours per week for quarter-time members and 10 hours per week for minimum-time members. Members can complete these hours M-F 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with some remote service possible.

Member Duties : •Research resources based on the needs of caregivers and care-recipients•Assist in adapting existing resources based on the needs of caregivers and care-recipients•Recruit and schedule participants for educational programs•Assist in scheduling and facilitating educational programs for family caregivers and car-recipients•Present information on caregiver resources to small groups•Educate caregivers on the need to be prepared for emergencies and having a plan for emergency respite and other life transitions•Work 1:1 with family caregivers to complete relevant tools, including personal story book work sheets, one-page information sheet, a plan for emergency respite, and or other care planning related tools•Friendly visits to caregivers, as feasible under any restrictions due to guidelines issued by the Governor’s Office and its agencies•Collect and maintain relevant caregiver outcome data•Participate in scheduled training to include, specialized training up to 15 hours
