Arizona Caregiver Coalition AmeriCorps - Tucson
Do you want serve your community and create long-lasting impact? The University of Arizona, Sonoran UCEDD in Tucson, Arizona has a spot for you! This program serves to improve the overall well-being and quality of life for Arizona’s Family Caregivers of family members who require assistance in daily activities due to lifelong disabilities (e.g., developmental disabilities) as well as newly acquired health conditions/disabilities. To do this, we offer a variety of support services, with a particular focus on caregiver respite, including one-to-one assistance in accessing respite and support groups, education and culturally relevant resources. Members will function as advisers to find supportive information and resources, refer caregivers to services, and assist caregivers in gathering important documents. Members will also provide hands-on assistance to educate family caregivers about resources and programs and how to implement practical steps that can help reduce stress and the burden of caregiving, so that they may remain in good health and provide ongoing support for their loved one in their own home. Members will work to build awareness of the need for caregiver respite and being prepared for situations that may require emergency respite. Members will provide respite services directly to caregivers. The average required hours per week for this position is 16 hours per week for minimum-time members and 10 hours per week for abbreviated-time members. Members can complete these hours M-F 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with some remote service possible.
