Peer Support & Family Navigation

As part of notMYkid’s Family Navigation and Peer Support Program, members will serve as Peer Support Specialists in Maricopa County communities to address teen drug use and mental health challenges while serving at schools and pediatrician offices. Members will receive training and certification in Peer Support to implement evidence-based curriculum with youth. Peer Support is an evidence-based strategy for supporting youth based on mutual respect and strategic self-disclosure to increase hope, self-advocacy skills, and relationship building. Youth Peer Support Specialists promote hope and acceptance by sharing their story of lived experience to reduce stigma and increase youth voice and ownership in services. Peer Support services address increasing perception of harm of drugs including opioid and prescription misuse, increasing hope among youth who are struggling, and developing effective communication skills.
