Maryland Coalition for Community Schools

The Maryland Coalition for Community Schools (MD4CS) is dedicated to expanding the community school strategy around the state of Maryland and creating a network of support for practitioners. A compelling body of research promotes utilizing a community school strategy to address barriers to learning created by concentrated poverty and entrenched opportunity gaps that contribute to disparities among student populations around academic, health, and social/emotional outcomes. With the increased capacity that an AmeriCorps VISTA member provides, this coalition increase its statewide impact by (1) expanding our reach to new coordinators and community schools in the state, (2) strengthening our feedback mechanism, and (3) expanding the number of afterschool programs in community schools.
