Stewards VISTA: Conservation Legacy - Stewards East

Conservation Legacy is one of America’s leading Conservation Service Organizations. Conservation Legacy works in all 50 states in partnership with state, federal, and private land managers to engage the next generation of conservation leaders. In 2020, Conservation Legacy programs provided local and national conservation service opportunities to 2,168 youth, young adults, and veterans between 15 and 35 years old. The organization operates nine local Conservation Corps brands throughout the US in addition to supporting six national programs. These programs collectively contributed 1.12 million hours of service to public lands through conservation, restoration, and community development projects last year. Stewards Individual Placements (Stewards East), a program of Conservation Legacy, places individuals across the nation in projects that build capacity, improve access to natural resources, develop and support innovative solutions, develop opportunities for service and economic development, and empower leaders. Housed in Beckley, West Virginia, near the newest National Park, Stewards Program aims to strengthen local impact and create a culture of stewardship by focusing on targeted audiences and concentrating our efforts in serving underrepresented populations in our home community. By working alongside fellow community leaders, supporting local organizations, and targeting underserved populations, our goal is to encourage community improvements at the local level, generating skilled, educated, and active future civic leaders.
