City of Lancaster, Bureau of Solid Waste & Recycling VISTA

The VISTA will be charged with "cleaning" up the current list of Adopt A Blockers through various means of communication. Next, we would focus on a survey with the goal to reimagine the Adopt A Block Program by gaining insight to neighborhood blocks’ real needs beyond just picking up litter. Ultimately this position would serve as a liaison that would work with the Department of Neighborhood Engagement and other Bureaus within Public Works to layout a structured Adopt A Block Program that includes Bi-Monthly virtual or in person meetings, a strong network of City Service Offering contacts, and a social media platform to celebrate the success of the Adopt A Blockers and their accomplishments. The Department of Public Works partners with the Department of Neighborhood Engagement to reach out to residents and stakeholders in the city to keep them informed of projects and initiatives taking place in their communities and give them a voice to help move the city towards a more diverse and equitable city where they live, work and play. Additionally, there will be an internal communication within the whole DPW. Engagement with employees will include asking their assistance in creating PSA’s (Public Service Announcements) to educate residents of “how we do what we do” and how it impacts their daily lives. The PSA’s will be available on several social media platforms. A blog focusing on DPW projects, will also be created in the near future with the VISTA and Communications Manager keeping that updated on a regular basis.
