Development and Communications Specialist

The VISTA will be shared between two small profits who serve the same population of individuals and families with intellectual and developmental disabilities and need support with capacity building. The Arc of the Central Mountains provides support to families experiencing hardship due to intellectual and developmental disabilities. SGR helps humans heal using horses (and small social animals), movement and nature. SGR’s mission is to never let cost prevent families from accessing services and provides programming free of charge. Families with intellectual and developmental disabilities face high costs of therapies, specialized caregivers, or disability which limits employment opportunities. More than 2/3 of families receiving regular sessions are below the median household income for Garfield County. Many of our families receiving regular sessions qualify for affordable housing and more than half of families receiving regular sessions rent their home.

Member Duties : The VISTA’s work at The Arc Central Mountains will include structuring a Membership Campaign to create greater awareness in the community while at the same time building our membership capacity. Additionally, the VISTA Volunteer will build out and update our Social Media platform to enhance our exposure in our 4-county geographic area. Finally, the VISTA will research and assist in grant writing. The VISTA placed at Smiling Goat Ranch will help design and create a volunteer training and management program to include a promotional video, a training video, tracking volunteer hours, and recruitment plan. The VISTA would also help in the development and execution of three annual fundraising events – a spring awareness walk, a summer Aspen event, and a winter holiday event. The VISTA will help design and complete marketing and PR plans to support projects.
