Boston Workforce Development - External Partnerships VISTA

The External Partnerships VISTA will support the Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development (OWD’s) in strengthening outreach, communications, and programmatic infrastructure that is shared between OWD and Boston Public Schools (BPS) and is crucial to Boston Saves and Tuition Free Community College (TFCC). They will also work to increase BPS awareness of City Academy as a post-graduation training option. OWD is an innovative public agency that seeks to promote economic self-sufficiency to ensure the full participation of all Boston residents in the city’s economic vitality and future, seeking to connect low-income residents with job training and employment opportunities and to promote lifelong literacy and educational pathways. This VISTA project will work to connect low-income Boston residents to job skills training, post-secondary education, and financial resources that facilitate economic opportunities and financial stability. Three VISTA members will contribute to the goals of the project by performing activities such as refining evaluation tools and systems, developing comprehensive and coordinated outreach strategies, and deepening the institutional partnership between OWD and BPS. The service of VISTA members will support Boston Saves, TFCC, and the City Academy program. OWD’s VISTA project will have the primary objectives of: 1) Developing systems for improved evaluation and recruitment; 2) Leveraging resources and relationships in the community and with partnering City agencies; and 3) Increasing resident engagement in program planning. VISTAs will build knowledge of existing systems and help to identify gaps and areas where improvements will help OWD’s special projects to increase effectiveness of service delivery and grow to scale. The ultimate outcome of these efforts will be to maximize the ability of Boston Saves, TFCC, and City Academy to positively impact community members’ economic and financial stability and increase upward mobility.
