Louisiana STEM - Esports Coordinator VISTA

STEM is a pathway to prosperity. The Louisiana Regional Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (LaSTEM) Network is a system of nine geographic areas strategically positioned across Louisiana through which communities, multi-parish regions and the State can achieve improved STEM education, opportunity, and advancement. The LaSTEM Advisory Council oversees the Louisiana Regional STEM Network. Visit https://lastem.regents.la.gov/ for more information. The Louisiana Scholastic Esports Federation (LASEF) is a statewide initiative led by LaSTEM Region 9 - Northshore STEM Center (NSTEM). The LASEF mission is to assist and facilitate the establishment of nationally competitive and social statewide youth scholastic esports programs. The NSTEM mission is to prepare all youth and young adults in the Northshore region for success by facilitating equitable, inclusive, quality STEM education and workforce development opportunities accessible to all students. The goals of the NSTEM outreach projects are to: 1) Increase student interest, participation and achievement in STEM for all students at all grade levels; 2) Increase strong stakeholder partnerships and support for STEM programs; and 3) Increase stakeholder awareness and support to create sustainable quality STEM education opportunities. The overarching goal of this project is to increase the numbers of youth in the region graduating from high school well-informed and well-prepared for college and careers in STEM fields, with a priority given to low-income communities. Key to the success of the project will be to extend standards-based experiences for in and out-of-school-time programs to all students in ways that engage families and community members. In addition to delivering exciting esports-based STEM learning challenges, programs will help build community awareness and support for LASEF and LaSTEM, thus building capacity for educational success for the region.
