Breaktime Development VISTA

The Double Impact Initiative, Breaktime’s flagship program, empowers young adults (ages 18-24) experiencing homelessness through purposeful transitional employment that strengthens communities across Greater Boston. Through this Double Impact model, Breaktime not only has an impact through the employment of these young adults but also through the change young adults are able to make through their work in the community. The program begins with the Breaktime Launchpad, a two-week stipend-paid training period focused on young adults’ professional development, financial empowerment, and personal growth. Launchpad is followed by Liftoff, 12 weeks of purposeful transitional employment at a nonprofit site partner, where young adults earn a living wage while tackling a pressing issue in their community, or a LBGTQ+/BIPOC-owned small business, where young adults help support the economic development of their community. Following Liftoff, young adults join Breaktime’s 9-month Stable Orbit program, where they engage in monthly check-ins, have opportunities to be a brand ambassador for Breaktime, and receive support around their next career or education step. Throughout their year with Breaktime, young adults receive comprehensive training, support, and mentoring from Breaktime staff. By the end of the program, we aim to have every associate (1) equipped with the professional development they need for long-term success, (2) engaged in 30+ hours of meaningful, productive work/school/training program and (3) empowered to make goal-oriented financial decisions.
