Mission to Impact Education VISTA

Congreso’s Mission 2 Impact will position clients and the agency for long-term success by supporting leadership and program staff in compiling the necessary skills, tools, and knowledge to enhance and develop anti-poverty programs to accomplish the agency’s renewed mission, which is “Congreso enables individuals and families in predominantly Latino neighborhoods to achieve economic self-sufficiency and wellbeing.” The enhanced mission follows a “womb-to-work” strategy, which will guide the agency towards two overarching outcomes for youth and their families: (1) economic self-sufficiency, defined as education and workforce development, and (2) well-being, defined as effective parenting, health, and housing. As Congreso focuses on these outcomes, the agency is shifting its target population and beginning to develop programming focused on expectant parents and youth ages 0 through 30. The primary goals are: •Realign Mission to Individual Program Outcomes and data management strategy for increased focus on performance management •Early Brain Development Research – start early to promote healthy brain development, and prevent Adverse Childhood Experiences to prepare young people to break intergenerational poverty dynamic in North Philadelphia •Two-Generation Approach, with added focus on parenting and serving a family unit, rather than individual •Focus on Core Program Areas to avoid straying from the mission •Putting parameters around core areas, to ensure resources are hyper-focused for maximum impact: •Geographic Catchment •Focus on ages 0-30 •Poverty threshold to serve families with the highest needs •Diversification of funding is prioritized •Innovation and measureable impact strategies are prioritized •Modernization of Congreso’s operations, culture, and services to support program development and enhancement •Focus on Congreso’s Pan American Academy Charter School to pilot new ideas and ensure families from the school are receiving services
