Alliance – Phoenix – Youth Caregiving Program Coordinator
In 2020, 6% of the caregivers in the US were under the age of 18. Over 40% of rural caregivers have no choice in taking on care, and youth often have to help. The effects on youth are mental and physical health issues, drop in school performance, and delays in social development. The VISTA Member with the Arizona Caregiver Coalition (ACC) will build capacity by combining community measures, developing caregiving youth and community advocacy approaches to strengthen partnerships, and create a resource network for caregiving youth-based support services in rural areas and among minority populations in Arizona. During the year as a VISTA with the Arizona Caregiver Coalition, a VISTA can expect to build relationships with local schools, develop new programs, and partner with internal stakeholders. The Alliance VISTA team offers monthly professional development, a state-wide network of support, and beauty that can only be found in rural Arizona. Relocation to Arizona is required.
