Opportunity Council - EMS Community Health Comm. & Outreach

Whatcom County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) has a mission of providing the right care at the right time through our Mobile Integrated Health Teams (MIH) and the Ground-Level Response and Coordinated Entry (GRACE) programs. The EMS office provides leadership to the Whatcom County EMS system which is a collection of 14 Fire Departments that provide all ranges of emergency response from the downtown Bellingham core to the most remote parts of the county. The EMS system is financed with a county-wide EMS Levy where programs and projects are funded along with operational funding of the system. Within this system, we deploy three Community Paramedic Teams partnered with Social Workers/Responders through the GRACE program that work to reduce the frequency of use of EMS, the Emergency Department, and Law Enforcement in the various communities. This 2nd year VISTA project will continue communications projects designed to connect vulnerable populations, in particular those populations living below the poverty level, in efforts to strengthen relationships between health care providers, community services and vulnerable community members. The Opportunity Council VISTA Cohort in Bellingham includes monthly team meetings, Professional Development opportunities, fun team-building events, and 4 annual Days of Service.
