*BMVP - Increasing Access to Child Abuse Prevention Services

The mission of Prevent Child Abuse Montana (PCAMT) is to prevent the abuse and neglect of Montana’s children and includes all forms of abuse and neglect, whether physical, sexual, educational, or emotional. Childhood health, wellness, and success in school are at risk when poverty and child abuse / neglect are present in families. In 2019, approximately 33,000 children were living in poverty in Montana (2019 Montana Kids Count) and there were 21,739 total referrals for child abuse and neglect in the state in SFY2019. The number of child victims increased 32% in a four-year period (Montana Department of Health and Human Services Child and Family Services Division). Higher poverty concentrations are associated with increased child abuse fatality rates. In SFY2019, there were 723 cases of child abuse and neglect in Yellowstone County and the majority of these children come from families living below the poverty level. Every child deserves the best possible start in life and every family needs support - which is most effective in early childhood. Violence needs to be addressed within every level of society and early intervention prevents costly future interventions. The development of a statewide network of organizations to work together to increase access to health / mental health services to prevent child abuse is a national best practice. The expansion of child abuse prevention initiatives throughout Montana will serve families more effectively for years to come. This project will help alleviate poverty by connecting people with health services and increasing access to opportunities in school, work, and life for children and parents to move out of poverty.

Member Duties : Create more accessibility for families in need and help alleviate poverty by connecting people with services to achieve health and success in school, work, and life at Family Tree Center in Billings! The Family Tree Center and the Parenting Place have joined forces to address child abuse and neglect issues across Montana.
