MTCC AmeriCorps Leader MT Tech

The Institute for Educational Opportunities at Montana Tech is a consortium of programs developed to provide K-12 and college students with the tools and support they need to achieve success in higher education. Poverty in the area is high with more than 1 in 5 families in the living in poverty. 76% of adults in the target area do not have a bachelor’s degree which is higher than the state average of 8%. The high poverty and low educational attainment levels effect academic achievement and aspirations of area youth as evidenced by only 72% of students persisting from one grade level to the next and only 71% graduation rate in the standard number of years. The Montana Tech-based MTCC AmeriCorps Leader will support and lead a team of 6 college student MTCC AmeriCorps members to engage K-12 youth in mentoring activities designed to help them consider, plan for, and prepare for post-secondary education at Butte High, Anaconda High, Ramsay, the Legion Oasis and Kids Coalition. Each MTCC AmeriCorps Team Member will commit to serving a 300 hour term of service.
