Kauai Climate Change Outreach VISTA
 
 
 
The Climate Change Outreach VISTA will help the state’s Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Commission (Commission) operationalize its mission through the Climate Ready Hawaii VISTA cohort. The mission is to promote ambitious, climate-neutral, culturally responsive strategies for climate change adaptation and mitigation in a manner that is clean, equitable and resilient. In particular, the VISTA will support youth and community outreach efforts associated with the Kauai County Climate Adaptation Plan. The purpose of the plan is to develop ambitious, climate-neutral, culturally responsive strategies for climate change adaptation and mitigation. Outreach efforts will include helping to plan and facilitate the following: • Open House events related to climate risks information for the community • Public education focused on climate change impacts to Kauai • Youth engagement such as contests, design challenges, and summits • Deep dive workshops focused on specific aspects of adaptation The Climate Change Outreach VISTA will also participate in Resiliency Team meetings and planning for any climate change-related events connected to the Hawaii Congress of Planning Officials (to be held on Kauai in 2022).
