Part Time Hushabye Nursery Health Care Assistant

Addiction can steal the dignity and freedom of affected individuals, splinter their families, and threaten the safety of communities. The stigma of drug addiction and a shortage of treatment options have left many individuals trying to cope with addiction without the support they need. Drug use among pregnant women has increased substantially causing a dramatic increase in infants born with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS). According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), a baby is born every 15 minutes with NAS resulting from the mother’s prenatal opioid exposure. NAS babies are the tiniest victims in today’s opioid health crisis, one exacerbated by persistent barriers to healthcare access and equity for infants and families. Communities have been thrust into attempting to handle the complex care needs of individuals resulting from opioid use disorder (OUD). In response, Hushabye Nursery has pioneered the first fully-integrated, holistic care model in the nation to provide medical treatment for babies experiencing NAS together with intensive behavioral health services to those family systems impacted by OUD. Hushabye Nursery opened its doors in November 2020, offering brave and enduring change rooted in the best available scientific research. In collaboration with health care providers, payers, policymakers, and consumer groups, Hushabye Nursery is working to change systems and help ensure that every that infant experiencing NAS together with their family system experiencing OUD receives the right care at the right price, while improving overall health outcomes. Our organization is committed to using evidence-based best practices to serve the most innocent patients at-risk youth and their families in turmoil. AmeriCorps members who will provide intensive prevention and interventions to Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) infants and their caregivers experiencing prescription drug and opioid withdrawal symptoms in Arizona.
