The Pinhead Institute is a Smithsonian Affiliate based in Telluride, Colorado that strives to promote science-education both locally and globally. Pinhead Institute educates and inspires children and adults in the greater Telluride region about the wonders of science and technology through engaging programming, direct interaction with scientists, and unique research centered internship experiences. An international network of the world’s leading scientists supports Pinhead's many educational programs providing unparalleled opportunity to high-level scientific education in rural Colorado. Pinhead Institute educates and inspires children and adults in the greater Telluride region about the wonders of science and technology. The VISTA with Pinhead will be helping to spread a love of science in the next generation by building the capacity of Pinhead Institute to offer innovative, interactive in-school and after school programming. Through this programming, students from all backgrounds and soci-economic status' will have equitable access to STEM education - creating more pathways to careers and higher education and create better outcomes for the community. The Pinhead offices are in Telluride, CO and works with the following Colorado school districts: Telluride, Olathe, Montrose, Ridgway, Ouray, Dolores, Cortez, Norwood, Naturita, Nucla, and Paradox. Located in Telluride, Colorado Pinhead's office is at the base of a ski lift and offers flexible hours for service to accommodate those who want to take advantage of all that Colorado has to offer!

Member Duties : The VISTA member with Pinhead Institute will have an incredible opportunity to: build exciting K-12 STEM education curriculum, serve alongside Pinhead Instructors to research and develop programming/curriculum, conduct community outreach to grow Pinhead's reach, assist with Pinhead Internship placements, volunteer recruitment, and write grants, and identify fundraising and fund development initiatives. The VISTA member will have an opportunity to grow their skills and share their passion for STEM education in one of the most beautiful places that Colorado has to offer!
