Austin Housing & Planning Displacement Prevention VISTA
 
 
 
The City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program works with City departments and local nonprofits to build capacity, in order to provide resources and services to the Austin neighborhoods and communities that may otherwise be left behind by Austin's historic disparities and future growth. The AmeriCorps members serving with the City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program work in such diverse fields as education, health, waste reduction, and housing to cover the myriad ways poverty affects these neighborhoods and communities.

Member Duties : Research strategies to promote two-way learning opportunities and application of the Racial Equity Anti-Displacement Tool, particularly targeted to BIPOC community members most at risk of displacement. Conduct conversations with leadership of at least 25 BIPOC-led community-based organizations to discuss the above strategies. Present a summary of findings to the Community Displacement Prevention Officer, Community Engagement Specialist, and Displacement Prevention Division staff. Create a final report summarizing findings and recommended next steps. Design and execute 10+ multi-lingual, community learning opportunities, particularly targeted to BIPOC community members most at risk of displacement. The events should target a variety of priority disadvantaged populations. Design materials for learning activities. Coordinate event logistics. Promote events. Create a post-event assessment tool to evaluate strengths, weaknesses, and lessons learned for future events.
