Equity Catalyst

We are seeking three Equity Catalyst VISTAs for the Poverty Reduction Unit (PRU). While all VISTAs will work on poverty reduction, two members will focus on homelessness and one on neighborhoods. Program support may include the Severe Weather Activation Plan (a hotel motel voucher program), Day Works (a no barrier, same day wage program), homelessness outreach, the annual Point-in-Time count as well as coordinating resource fairs and neighborhood groups. The members will be able to build programs which may include, a street outreach volunteer program, a social support program for people living in motels, an art exhibit to cultivate empathy, a housing navigation center, a racial equity framework, as well as a plan to involve the faith-based and business communities in poverty reduction. The VISTAs will work with homeless- and neighborhoods serving organizations two days per week. These organizations may focus on one or more of the following: sheltering, street outreach, legal aid, housing stability and navigation, food insecurity, or neighborhood services. The fit between the organization and VISTA will be reassessed on a quarterly basis and the PRU will be intentional about playing to the members’ interests. Overall, the VISTAs will help us achieve the following objectives: • Double the number of CSWB volunteers serving people experiencing homelessness • Create at least one program to fill a gap in services • Increase the number of people experiencing homelessness served in "unassigned municipalities" to at least 20 • Create one strategy to involve business and faith-based communities and/or housing managers in homelessness reduction • Coordinate at least one magnet event to benefit people experiencing homelessness • Step up to meet the emerging needs for at least one community-based organization • Grow the number of neighborhood groups to at least five • Create at least one equity framework to increase the diversity of neighborhood groups

Member Duties : The three Equity Catalyst VISTAs will assist with community partnership and program development for the purpose of reducing poverty and strengthening neighborhoods in Adams County, Colorado (just north of Denver). The VISTA will be community-facing but based in an office with the opportunity to work in the field. On a day-to-day basis, these VISTAs will identify and meet with stakeholders, write program proposals and grants, accompany street outreach workers, assist with community resource navigation, develop strategic plans, lead projects, attend events and network with partners, enter and analyze data, and facilitate workgroups as needed—all for the purpose of generating buy-in and momentum towards a more equitable Adams County.
