Hennepin Healthcare, a large, urban, heathcare organization, includes a hospital, Level 1 trauma center, 63 specialty clinics & community programs. Our mission: We partner with our community, our patients & families to ensure access to outstanding care for everyone while improving health & wellness through teaching, patient & community education & research. Patients cover every age & stage of life; pre-natal to newborn to adolescents to aging to end-of-life. One of every four patients was born outside the US & many will need support from Interpreter Services, which uses 78 languages & is deployed on average 27,500 times per month. A teaching hospital, Hennepin Healthcare is committed to mentoring, training & supporting incoming healthcare professionals. Our community has many educational, training & job placement programs that focus on support roles in medical settings. Students can benefit from experience in a healthcare setting, both in improved job seeking outcomes & increased skills as future healthcare professionals. Partnering with these students to match their needs for real world experience with our patients’ needs to remove stress & barriers to accessing healthcare is a win-win. A VISTA will provide dedicated time to identify educational institutions & programs that have the capacity & need, to refer canidates to serve in a volunteer capacity with Hennepin Healthcare’s Welcome Services Team. The VISTA will develop community partnerships that will serve as an ongoing source of volunteers seeking to gain job experience & skills & will assist in building the infrastructure needed to sustain ongoing success, including continued training & support for Welcome Services. COVID has created unique challenges & opportunities. The opportunity to serve in a major health care setting, during a public health crisis, will provide a unique & rewarding opportunity to make a lasting difference & be a part of a team working to create a healthy community
