Maryland RefugeeCorps_Baltimore Job Placement
 
 
 
The ability of refugees to overcome employment barriers and become financially self-sufficient in a short period of time requires tailored job placement services that are both intensive and culturally responsive. As such, the IRC in Baltimore offering a service opportunity for AmeriCorps members to strengthen and expand IRC’s bundled services so newly arrived refugees, as well as refugees returning to the organization, have the skills necessary to obtain and retain full-time employment during their first year in the U.S., and are ultimately financially self-sufficient whereby income exceeds expenses.¿¿ Three Job Placement AmeriCorps at the IRC in Baltimore will further strengthen IRC Maryland’s economic empowerment programming. Each Job Placement AmeriCorps will work with 60 clients to place them in employment and help them to retain employment. AmeriCorps members will assist IRC staff to conduct client intakes and assessments; help clients fill out social security card applications and other benefits necessary for employment; work directly with clients to create employment plans and work with resettlement case managers to reduce barriers to job placement and job retention. Members will also assist with conducting sector specific research on industry hiring trends and strengthen communications with area employers; identify specific employment opportunities and guide clients through the hiring process. After hiring, the member will monitor job performance, wage levels and employer/ employee satisfaction, track and report client progress.

Member Duties : Assist clients by conducting intakes and assessments, develop employment plans, conduct practice interviews, help clients enhance their resumes. Accompany clients to job interviews and orientations as needed Develop and cultivate new relationships with area employers in order to identify appropriate employment opportunities for clients Conduct sector specific research on industry hiring trends¿¿¿ Determine specific employment opportunities appropriate to clients and assist clients in accessing these opportunities by guiding them through the hiring process Monitor job performance, wage level, and employer/employee satisfaction Assist clients and employers as necessary with post placement issues and continuing employment needs Reduce barriers to job retention¿¿ Maintain files and database records to track client progress through all economic development services and ensure timely and accurate compliance with all reporting requirements
