Climate and Transportation Equity VISTA

The Climate and Transportation Equity VISTA will support the state’s Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Commission (Commission) in operationalizing its mission through the Climate Ready Hawaii VISTA cohort. The mission is to promote ambitious, climate-neutral, culturally responsive strategies for climate change adaptation and mitigation in a manner that is clean, equitable and resilient. The working group will center the people and communities who have direct, lived experience with transportation inequity and build a coalition to ensure that our transportation systems prioritize healthy, safe mobility for users of every age, gender, race, ability and neighborhood and will develop shared language, goals and workplan for defining, evaluating and developing strategies for addressing disparities in health, safety, and access in our active transportation system, and therefore providing affordable options for vulnerable groups. As a member of the Climate Ready Hawaii cohort, the VISTA will assist in outreach and communication to the public on general climate change topics, through social media, webpages, speaker series, meetings, and conferences. The member will also work with the Commission’s staff on projects relevant to climate and equity.
