Shared Harvest Food Bank-Hunger & Health Associate
 
 
 
Over the past 38 years, SHF has grown to distribute food to over 90 charitable organizations in five Southwestern Ohio Counties; Butler, Darke, Miami, Preble and Warren. In 2020, SHF distributed 11 million pounds of food through our membership in these five southwest Ohio Counties. SHF also continues to act as a regional agent for the administration and distribution of USDA TEFAP commodities through four sister foodbanks, serving an additional 26 counties in Ohio. The mission of Shared Harvest Foodbank is to find, rescue and distribute food to people living in poverty through an efficient network uniting the public and private sectors and to raise awareness of the impact of poverty.

Member Duties : In the AmeriCorps VISTA role at Shared Harvest, you will conduct community health assessments to identify and address specific diet-related diseases in the community. By establishing relationships in low income housing communities and procuring fresh foods for distribution, you will target identified diet related diseases to increase positive health outcomes. To evaluate program effectiveness, you will conduct pre and post tests to measure health outcomes in program participants. Finally, you will develop marketing materials using data, stories, and information gleaned from interviews with health industry professionals and program participants. Your created materials will demonstrate the significance of food as it relates to health outcomes and serve to educate the community. **Benefits include a $200 monthly housing stipend.**
