Arizona Project WET UACE Maricopa County
Arizona Project WET (APW) develops water stewardship and STEM literacy by providing teacher professional development that evolves instructional practice and deepens content knowledge, direct student outreach that delivers or extends classroom learning, and community engagement. The member will work with APW program coordinators to ensure delivery of quality programs to all our constituents. AmeriCorps’ AZ Project WET Water Educator’s work hours vary depending on the scheduling of school and community events. Most events occur during school hours M-F 7:30 AM – 3:00 PM, with additional opportunities to work special events on evenings or weekends. There will be multiple part-time sizes available with some the smaller slots ending in May and June and larger ones ending in July. Preferred qualifications: Degree in or equivalent experience in environmental education, environmental science, natural resources, or STEM related field; Experience in both formal and non-formal education programs for a variety of audiences; Broad-based knowledge of water resources and water management in the state and/or a willingness to learn.

Member Duties : Promote STEM literacy in our schools through water education opportunities; Seek out and build relationships for the Aqua STEM, Water Scene Investigation, Arizona Water Festivals, the Groundwater Education & Conservation programs, and others as they relate to STEM water education; Provide program implementation support for new grant opportunities; Assist in the development & presentation of teacher professional development workshops; Engage students in discovery by facilitating hands-on, minds-on lessons; Transport, set up, & take down equipment for facilitated STEM learning experiences; Help train & coordinate volunteers to facilitate lesson delivery; Present scripted water-related lessons in an engaging, inquiry-based manner; Communicate appropriately with classroom teachers, other adults & students; Provide interactive engaging STEM activities & information at public events; Incorporate local relevance into teaching and facilitating; Enter student assessment data into Excel.
