AZ Project WET Water Educator - UACE Pima County
Arizona Project WET (APW) develops water stewardship and STEM literacy by providing teacher professional development that improves instructional practice and deepens content knowledge, direct student outreach that delivers or extends classroom learning, and community engagement. Under the direction of the Arizona Project WET (APW) Tucson Water Education Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator, qualified applicants will be trained to become part of a team of Water Educators. The primary purpose of the Water Educator is to deliver locally relevant water education programs in Tucson-area schools. All necessary training is provided. Candidates should have a strong interest in inquiry-based water education. Basic knowledge of educational principles and methods should be enhanced with creativity and flexibility. Strong communication skills are a must, along with the ability to translate technical information into age-appropriate presentations.

Member Duties : Facilitate groundwater flow model presentations in fourth & middle school classrooms. Present scripted, water-related lessons at Water Festivals in an engaging, inquiry-based manner. Facilitate middle-high school student learning in field trips to Sweetwater Wetlands using Discovery Program, USA Phenology Network, & guided tours. Visit school sites & work with teachers interested in rainwater harvesting systems. Participate in Rainwater Harvesting installations alongside students & parents. Set up, clean up, & help transport equipment for water presentations and events. Promote student discovery & engagement with STEM disciplines through hands-on, minds-on lessons. Assist in the development of lessons & learning opportunities for the 4-12th grade students at the schools including Career and Technical Education programs at the high school level. Perform data gathering at the rain basins. Support recruiting & training adult volunteers for events.
