Freestore Foodbank's vision is to create a hunger-free, healthy, and thriving community. Our mission is to improve lives by eliminating hunger in partnership with our community. To achieve our mission and vision, our objectives are to provide nutritious food, connect to support services, and offer a pathway from crisis to stability. We work with a network of over 500 community partner agencies, including food pantries, shelters, schools, and healthcare providers, who assist us in distributing food within our 20-county service area. In addition to food, we also connect people to programs and services that provides support on a pathway to stability. We assist with SNAP applications and benefits enrollments. We also work with individuals to obtain birth certificates and IDs. In addition, we provide assistance with transportation, rent, and utilities. We operate two job training programs as a way to provide hands-on experience and support that allows individuals to gain skills and confidence.

Member Duties : As our VISTA member, you will be on the front lines of an important initiative to enhance our community’s access to nutritious food. Each day, members of our community face countless barriers to accessing the nutrition they need. Our new Order Ahead program removes several of these barriers by allowing clients to choose their groceries in advance and schedule their time of pickup. In this role, you will strategically widen the impact of this program by establishing new community partnerships with organizations who will implement this crucial initiative at their sites. Recruiting and training new program sites and volunteers to implement the program, you will rally the community to ensure households across our wide service area receive the food they need.
