Youth Action Project Young Scholars Program
 
 
 
Youth Action Project, with its 36 AmeriCorps Members, provides tutoring and life skills development services to over 400 high school students within in San Bernardino City Unified School District and Rialto Unified School District. Members provide personalized academic coaching, primarily in the areas of math and English Language Arts, at identified school sites. Members also guide students through the process of goal setting and developing educational and/or career plans, as well as performing case management duties by engaging parents, conducting home visits and tracking beneficiaries and their progress. As a result of working with our members, YAP’s expected outcomes include an increase in academic performance based on standardized testing, increased engagement and connection to school and over 100 volunteers recruited for community service activities.

Member Duties : Members will assist with eligibility screening & enrollment for our after school programming. Members administer assessments, create individualized Academic & Career Plan and provide/track tutoring and other service delivery to students assigned to them. Members also maintain contact with parents as needed to keep parents updated on their student's progress and to provide tips on how to supplement the learning environment in the home. Members also work with students to set goals and develop age appropriate life skills through enrichment activities.
