Capacity Building to End Homelessness - Flint/CFI
The mission of Communities First, Inc. is to build healthy, vibrant communities through economic development, affordable housing and innovative programming. The organization develops housing for low to moderate income families and supports them with supplemental programs focused on economic mobility. Communities First, Inc. needs a VISTA member to support efforts toward preventing and ending homelessness. Service benefits include: a living allowance of $15,002, health benefits, childcare benefits (eligibility based), an option of a $6,345 education award or $1,800 cash stipend, non-competitive eligibility for 12 months following service, and up to a $400/month housing stipend paid directly to the landlord or mortgage provider. Member Duties : The VISTA would conduct needs assessments, draft press releases and communications to broaden awareness of CFI and local programs, create communication campaigns, develop strategies to reduce barriers for those in poverty, support work with the Flint/Genesee Continuum of Care, and recruit and manage volunteers for CFI programs supporting those in poverty and/or experiencing homelessness.
