STEM-Corps East
 
 
 
STEM-Corps East is an AmeriCorps tutoring and enrichment program focused on improving K-12 student achievement in STEM areas. Members provide one-on-one and small group tutoring services, after school tutoring & STEM enrichment services and/or summer enrichment activities. Members assist teachers in the delivery of the NC Standard Course of Study in math and science classes. Members help to extend the instructional time by providing in-school and after school tutoring services and/or summer enrichment activities. STEM-Corps East is a program of the NC Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service and the College of Education Rural Education Institute at East Carolina University. STEM-Corps East partners with local school districts, community colleges, and community organizations/groups in eastern North Carolina.

Member Duties : STEM-Corps East Members will have the option to serve as a STEM Tutor or a STEM Enrichment Assistant based on skill, interest, and community placements. STEM Tutors provide one-on-one & small group tutoring services either within the schools or in or with a community-based organization that provides after school tutoring services. STEM Enrichment Assistants provide after-school support in STEM subjects and STEM focused enrichment activities for youth-based organizations. Members are provided with on-going support, guidance, and supervision of classroom teachers and site supervisors. Members will provide subject-based support and serve as a role model for youth. Members will use different techniques and strategies to help youth leaners acquire new knowledge, solve problems, and complete academic tasks. Members will assist youth understanding of STEM concepts and the impact of everyday life.
