Community Bridges Alumnae Program
Community Bridges empowers girls from diverse backgrounds to become exceptional students, positive leaders and healthy young women. We do so by addressing the developmental needs of immigrant and minority girls and their families living at or below the federal poverty level in Montgomery County, Maryland. In 2018, the CB Alumnae Program was launched. We noticed that as our girls graduate and go onto college they still need guidance and support to work towards graduation and ending the cycle of poverty for them and their families using education as a vehicle. The overall goal of the AmeriCorps VISTA project is to expand the CB Alumnae program so that it can benefit all our alumnae, especially the ones that are currently still in college. A curriculum focused on college readiness and college success will be developed and implemented in partnership with the CB Program Managers.

Member Duties : Under the mentorship of Shannon Babe-Thomas, Community Bridges Executive Director, Marianne Hope, Community Bridges Program Director and the CB staff, the VISTA will work to develop and implement the Community Bridges Alumnae Program and allow Community Bridges (CB) to serve more girls and women in need in Montgomery County. The VISTA will assess the needs of the CB alumnae and determine high-priority objectives for ensuring that CB meets the needs of the girls as they graduate the program and as they continue their education in college and beyond. The VISTA will work with Community Bridges’ Program Managers to determine key programmatic components necessary to ensure we build a program that is sustainable and easy to both implement and evaluate. The VISTA will work to develop the communication strategy and resources necessary to begin a successful CB Alumnae Program.
