Austin Resource Recovery Repair Education VISTA
 
 
 
The City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program works with City departments and local nonprofits to build capacity, in order to provide resources and services to the Austin neighborhoods and communities that may otherwise be left behind by Austin's historic disparities and future growth. The AmeriCorps members serving with the City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program work in such diverse fields as education, health, transportation, and housing to cover the myriad ways poverty affects these neighborhoods and communities.

Member Duties : Perform research on repair interests in Austin's low-income communities. Perform a SWOT analysis on previous repair programs in Austin to learn what worked and what areas need improvement. Communicate with communities to learn more about what needs for repair education exist. Conduct interviews with low income individuals about repair education, and barriers to repair access. Analyze research and complete a repair interests and needs assessment. Compile current knowledge, behaviors, and attitudes about repair within these communities. Describe the role repair currently plays within these communities. Identify barriers to repair education. Identify household item focus areas where more access to repair would have high economic value. Create a plan for developing pilot projects to test solutions for increasing repair access. Identify 3-5 potential solutions that could increase repair access. Recommend next steps that prioritize the needs of low-income communities in Austin.
