'21-'22 Wrap-Around Services VISTA

As the largest network of food banks in Pierce County, Nourish has provided a lifeline of support to its clients for more than forty years. (Learn more at nourishpc.org). Now we need the help of a talented AmeriCorps member to set us up to offer wraparound supports in addition to food. The goal of integrating wrap-around services within traditional food pantries is simple: to end hunger in a community and to get each Customer and family/individual one step closer to self-sufficiency. The result is a food pantry that becomes the center of a Customer’s social community. This is critically important because many people who go to food pantries don’t have reliable transportation. Traveling to individual places to apply to different programs is difficult for them. With your help, we can set up a process where a caseworker can sit down with families to determine what types of services they are eligible to receive, such as: SNAP, WIC, Day care and childcare, and more.

Member Duties : 1) Survey, interview clients to find the top 12 services they need. 2) Use customer input to research agencies- (government, private, nonprofit) to see who provides these services in Pierce County. 3) Determine which of these programs have “outreach services” that go out to the customer vs the customer going to them. 4) Provide a list of potential partners to include contact information: Org Name, A contact person, address, phone, e-mail etc… 5) Develop criteria for Nourish to select partner programs so we can make sure we only work with programs that are effective and treat low-income people with dignity. 6) Develop an evaluation tool for Nourish test the effectiveness of these individual programs/services. 7) Work with Nourish staff to begin recruiting new partners and scheduling services.
