Immigrant Program Coordinator (Capacity Building)

Join us in creating a more welcoming and inclusive community! The University Y is looking for an engaged, self-starting VISTA volunteer to expand the capacity of the New American Welcome Center (NAWC) by developing volunteer infrastructure and financial resources to enhance both existing and nascent immigrant outreach and programming. Founded in 1873, the University YMCA is the oldest non-profit in Champaign County with a storied history of engaging generations of University of Illinois students and community leaders in cause-driven community service, reflection, and action. The University Y’s NAWC actively engages local institutions and mobilizes community resources to make Champaign County a place where newcomers and immigrants can establish roots and create a brighter future. Home to the 2nd largest immigrant community in Illinois, we work side by side with numerous partners to lay the foundation for equitable access, economic opportunity, and meaningful belonging. As a trusted community resource, our programs reach residents who experience greater rates of isolation and marginalization due to language barriers and lack of access to opportunities for upward mobility. The programs we provide offer resource navigation, legal assistance, economic advancement, a pathway to citizenship, and more. Champaign County is filled with arts and culture, scenic outdoor spaces, local award-winning food, and the University of Illinois. We’re the fastest growing city in Illinois- for our Midwest hospitality and our collection of urban and rural experiences, people can’t stop talking about our community. Position open until filled.
