TSC EOC 2021: Karen Society of Buffalo, Program Assistant

Through placement at essential Western New York nonprofits, AmeriCorps Economic Opportunity Corps (EOC) members serve to improve community members’ financial resiliency, stability, and wellness. As WNY begins our economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, your service, in areas such as housing security and affordability, free legal services, access to supportive services and benefits, college readiness, and health equity, will provide vital aid in helping our region build back better. Members join EOC from all backgrounds, and the most important characteristic our members have is a passion for assisting others as we work together towards the main AmeriCorps mission of eliminating poverty. In service with EOC, you will be making a lifelong impact in peoples’ lives for decades and generations to come. National service has never been more vital to our local community, so please apply today!

Member Duties : Karen Society of Buffalo (KSB) is a community-based organization seeking to enhance the quality of life and to cultivate the self-sufficiency of immigrants from Burma, while preserving and sharing Burmese cultural heritage. The EOC member will assist the Youth Program, including running the financial literacy component. The member will assist drop-in clients seeking assistance relating to economic self-sufficiency, reading bills, securing or managing public benefits, or navigating US cultural and financial systems. The member will also help KSB to continue developing a new Working Families Program, geared toward fostering financial literacy, navigating our region’s systems, and achieving greater financial security. Further, the member will aid in the expanding operations of KSB, such as volunteer recruitment and coordination, scheduling the agency van, working with our Board, and assisting in program reporting.
