TSC EOC 2021: Say Yes Buffalo, FAFSA Completion Project

Through placement at essential Western New York nonprofits, AmeriCorps Economic Opportunity Corps (EOC) members serve to improve community members’ financial resiliency, stability, and wellness. As WNY begins our economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, your service, in areas such as housing security and affordability, free legal services, access to supportive services and benefits, college readiness, and health equity, will provide vital aid in helping our region build back better. Members join EOC from all backgrounds, and the most important characteristic our members have is a passion for assisting others as we work together towards the main AmeriCorps mission of eliminating poverty. In service with EOC, you will be making a lifelong impact in peoples’ lives for decades and generations to come. National service has never been more vital to our local community, so please apply today!

Member Duties : The FAFSA Completion Project began at the start of the 2012-2013 school year, as an extension of Say Yes Buffalo. Our team assists students and families in the community with the financial aid process, with a focus on the FAFSA and the TAP application. The EOC member will be assisting in hiring, training, and supervising undergraduate students from UB and other local colleges to provide support to students and families across the city. The member will also manage our virtual and social media presence, including Sign Up Genius, an appointment platform, Signal Vine, a texting platform for communication with students, and the organizational website. Finally, the member will be tasked with the development and implementation of a financial literacy program that complements the work of the project and prepares students for the specific challenges of managing personal finances in college.
