TSC EOC 2021: Compass House

Through placement at essential Western New York nonprofits, AmeriCorps Economic Opportunity Corps (EOC) members serve to improve community members’ financial resiliency, stability, and wellness. As WNY begins our economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, your service, in areas such as housing security and affordability, free legal services, access to supportive services and benefits, college readiness, and health equity, will provide vital aid in helping our region build back better. Member Duties : Founded in 1972, Compass House operates an Emergency Shelter, Resource Center, and Rapid Re-Housing Program. Their mission is to provide runaway, homeless and street youth with safe shelter and services, through a voluntary and mutually agreed-upon process, in an environment that supports dignity, respect, and self-reliance. The EOC member will serve in the Transitional Independent Living Program (TILP), which offers the youth served in the program the opportunity to graduate to the Rapid Rehousing Program. The member will assist in finding apartments for existing clients, assist with the intake process of new clients, manage donation and pick-up/drop-off of goods, provide follow-up and aftercare to clients in the program, and conduct outreach with other shelters for appropriate Compass House clients. Additionally, the member will assist with the set-up of client apartments, help update policies and procedures, and conduct community outreach to partnering organizations for referrals.
